Ask Hytrol: How to Replace a ProSort LP Shoe Assembly

Written by Hytrol | November 5, 2026

In the video below, we’re going to walk you through how to replace a shoe assembly or slat wearstrip on a ProSort LP.

Before You Start

Before getting started, gather the following tools:

  • Two large screwdrivers
  • T30IP drive bit
  • Ratchet
  • M5 hex bit

Safety First: Before performing any maintenance, disconnect power from the conveyor and follow your facility's lockout/tagout procedures.

Removing the Existing Shoe Assembly or Wearstrip

Start by removing the chain cover near the affected slat or shoe assembly using an M5 hex bit and ratchet.

Next, use two large screwdrivers to lift the chain out of the guide assembly. With the chain lifted, remove the slat from the extended chain pins.

Using a T30IP drive bit and ratchet, remove the screws and slat bushing from one end of the assembly. The damaged shoe assembly or slat wearstrip can then be slid off the slat.

Installing the Replacement

Slide the replacement shoe assembly or slat wearstrip onto the slat. Reinstall the bushing and torque the screws using the T30IP drive bit, following the applicable manufacturer's specifications.

Once secured, position the slat back onto the extended chain pins. Make sure the replacement shoe is oriented in the same direction as the other shoes on the conveyor.

Use the screwdrivers to return the chain to the guide assembly. Check that the new shoe's bottom pin is properly positioned in the pin guide rail and aligned with the surrounding shoes.

Finally, reinstall the chain cover using the M5 hex bit and ratchet.

Getting Back to Operation

Before restarting the conveyor, verify that all components are properly installed and secured. Follow your facility's lockout/tagout procedures for safely removing locks and tags and restoring power.

With the replacement complete, the ProSort LP can be returned to service once all required safety and operational checks have been completed.
