In today's Ask Hytrol video, we're going to talk about how to install a Hytrol gear reducer. Models 4AC and 5AC speed reducers are supplied with a "C-Face" adapter and may be coupled directly to the motor via coupling gears and a sleeve. During installation, it is recommended to use the supplied Hytrol Motor Coupling Gage for accurately locating both coupling gears to their correct setting on the shaft.

First, install a 3/4" bore coupling gear to the reducer input shaft using a 3/16" x 1" long shaft key. Use the supplied Hytrol Motor Coupling Gauge to ensure proper placement of the gear and tighten the set screws through the hole in the "C-Face" adapter.

Next, install the appropriate size coupling gear to the motor by using the other side of the motor coupling gauge. Tighten the set screws.

It is important for these gears to be properly spaced on the shafts. Incorrect gear setting can result in excessive coupling noise and bearing failure.

With assistance from a second person, mount the reducer to the conveyor using the appropriate mounting holes for your drive on either the top or bottom of the reducer. Note that Hytrol uses hardened bolts for a more secure and durable mounting.

After that, place the sleeve onto the reducer coupling gear and ease the motor into place. To check alignment, look through the hole in the "C-Face" adapter to see that the sleeve seats onto the coupling gear of the reducer. Align the motor's mounting holes to the "C-Face" adapter and install the mounting bolts.

Once that is done, you will need to install the vent plug. Refer to Figure 5A in the Reducer Installation & Maintenance Manual and determine the mounting position after installation.

Remove the solid pipe plug and install the vent plug in the position indicated by the drawings. Note that other positions may cause leakage.

Now you have successfully installed a Hytrol gear reducer. For more maintenance tips, contact your Hytrol solutions provider.
