Ask Hytrol: How to Correct a Misaligned V-Belt on an LRC
In today's Ask Hytrol video, we're going to discuss how to address a misaligned V-belt on an LRC.
One of the most important preventative maintenance items on Hytrol’s V-belt driven models is to check for proper V-belt and sheave alignment.
When viewing the V-belt from the opposite side, the belt should appear straight or horizontal. If the belt deflects up in between two adjacent rollers, the accumulation pressure is too high.
Following proper lock-out tag-out procedures, align both idler sheaves with the drive sheave so the belt runs in the middle of the drive sheave to prevent belt wear. Position a straight edge on the drive sheave’s face on the bearing side. Move each idler sheave until the belt is parallel to the straight edge.
Proper alignment of these two components greatly reduces the likelihood of the belt popping out of the sheave. You should never pry the belt onto the sheaves, especially with a screwdriver, as this will cause permanent damage to the belt’s core and could result in injury. Always loosen the take-up to put the belt on.
It is important to note that the number and orientation of the horizontal idlers and take-up sheaves may vary depending upon the width, radius and tangent lengths of the curve/spur. It is common to multiple arrangements throughout a single conveyor system.
