Ask Hytrol: How to Complete the Homing Procedure on the ProSort 400 Elite
Ask Hytrol is our monthly video series focused on specific topics to help you maintain your conveyor system and learn about new technology. In this video, you will learn how to complete the homing procedure on the ProSort 400 Elite.
The homing procedure for the ProSort 400 Elite shoe sorter is properly set prior to shipment. However, it is sometimes necessary to reconfigure the settings.
In order for the electric switch on the ProSort 400 Elite to work properly, the servo must have a home position. The homing procedure gives the servo this position, allowing the switch to divert product consistently.
Following all proper lock-out tag-out procedures, turn the disconnect on the front of the panel to the “off” position to disconnect the three-phase supply power and control signal power. Wait at least 90 seconds after removing power to allow it to dissipate to a safe level, then remove the orange power cable and the green encoder cable from the servo motor mounted to the switch. Next, remove the 5-wire M12 cable connected to the smart proxy.
Now, detach the switch mechanism from the sorter. Refer to the installation and maintenance manual for removal instructions. Remove the nut on the bottom of the switch gate, then pull the switch gate out of the assembly. The servo motor shaft and cam should now be visible.
Reconnect the orange power cable and the green encoder cable. Turn the cam by hand until the motor key is facing the outside mounting plate of the switch assembly. Insert the key into the key switch on the side of the enclosure and turn the key to the “on” position.
Now, apply power to the servo drive enclosure and allow for the drive to power up completely. This takes approximately 30 seconds and will set the home position of the servo. Please remember to keep hands and other objects away from the cam during power-up, as the cam can sometimes shift during this process.
Turn the disconnect off, then turn the key to its original position, and remove the key from the key switch. Remove the orange power cable and the green encoder cable, assemble the switch and return it to the ProSort 400 Elite. Be sure to connect the orange and green cables and the 5-wire M12 smart prox.
This completes the homing procedure for the ProSort 400 Elite electric switch.
